Breast cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the cells of the breast. It can occur in both men and women, though it's much more common in women.
While the exact cause isn't fully understood, several risk factors are associated with breast cancer, including:
1.Genetic mutations (like BRCA1 and BRCA2)
2.Family history of breast cancer
3.Age (risk increases with age)
4.Personal history of certain non-cancerous breast diseases
Some of the Symptoms are:
1.A lump or mass in the breast
2.Changes in breast shape or size
3.Skin changes (like dimpling or redness)
4.Nipple discharge
5.Hormonal factors, such as prolonged exposure to estrogen
Therefore the SRC Womens Commission in collabration with the College Nurses organized a breast cancer screening on Thursday 17th October,2024 for both students and Tutors in the college.
This screening was done to assess and identify breast cancer at early stage because studies show that early-stages of breast cancer has a higher survival rate compared to later stages.
The screening was done to provide valuable information that can help individuals make informed choices about their health when it come to breast cancer and the treatment procedures one has to go through.This screening took place at the College sick bay.
